15-Year-Old Arrested After ATV Crash on Sunrise Highway
Between 20 and 30 people were riding dirt bikes and ATVs on the highway Monday evening, police say.

A Patchogue teen was arrested after he crashed his ATV on Sunrise Highway and then attempted to flee Monday evening, police said.
According to police, Highway Patrol Police Officer Matthew Dewitt was on a traffic stop on westbound Sunrise Highway, near Exit 56, around 6 p.m. when he observed a group of between 20 and 30 people riding dirt bikes and ATVs westbound on the main portion of the roadway.
As the riders approached the officer, a 15-year-old Patchogue male operating a 2014 Suzuki 400 quad ATV unsuccessfully attempted a trick maneuver and lost control of the quad, which then overturned, police said.
