4 Hurt, Wrong-Way Drugged Driver Arrested After 4-Car Crash on Suffolk County Parkway: Police

BREAKING: Police have released details on a Monday evening crash.

SHIRLEY, NY – Four people were injured, one seriously, in a crash involving four vehicles on the William Floyd Parkway that was caused by a wrong-way driver high on drugs Monday evening, Suffolk Police said.

According to police, 42-year-old Kevin Demartino was driving a 2009 Toyota north in the southbound lanes of the parkway when he struck a 2012 Volkswagen, a 2004 Ford and a 2013 Ford, all of which were traveling southbound, 250 feet south of Flintlock Drive, at about 6:30 p.m.

The driver of the 2013 Ford, Margaret Wimett, 51, of Mastic Beach, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue with serious but non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the Volkswagen, Joyce Voellm, 63, of East Moriches, and the driver of the 2004 Ford, Norberto Garcia, 36, of Shirley, were also transported to Brookhaven Hospital, where they were treated and released.

Demartino, of Shirley, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle impaired by drugs. He will be arraigned on a later date.
