35 New Correction Officer Recruits Sworn In By Suffolk County Sheriff At Yaphank Jail

There's 29 men and six women; six have military or prior law enforcement experience, including with the NYPD, the sheriff says.

YAPHANK, NY — Thirty-five new correction officer recruits were sworn in on Monday at the Yaphank Correctional Facility, Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon's office said.

The recruits will begin a rigorous 15-week training program, which includes instruction in direct supervision, de-escalation techniques, report writing, defensive tactics, firearms, and much more.

They will graduate this summer, joining a force consisting of more than 840 Suffolk correction officers.

The recruits in this Correction Officer Recruit Class are comprised of 29 men and six women. Six have military or prior law enforcement experience, including with the New York Police Department.

Toulon welcomed the recruits, reminding them that they “now hold a position of authority in Suffolk County, and with that authority comes great responsibility.”
