PATCHOGUE, NY — A special screening of the film, "Lone Survivor," which is about the heroic actions of U.S. Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy, will be hosted in Patchogue next month.
Murphy died in Afghanistan in 2005 during Operation Red Wings. He was fatally wounded after exposing his position to enemy gunfire while using a satellite phone to call for help for his team.
Only one man survived the mission — Marcus Luttrell.
"Lone Survivor" is based on his book of the same name, which recounts Murphy's actions. Murphy, who was from Patchogue, was posthumously recognized with the Medal of Honor in 2007. He was also given the rare honor of having a destroyer named after him.
The film stars Mark Wahlberg as Luttrell, and Taylor Kitsch as Murphy.
The movie will screen Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Plaza MAC on Terry Street.
The film will be followed by a question-and-answer session with Murphy's father, Daniel Murphy, and retired SEAL Chris Wyllie.
