BROOKHAVEN TOWN, NY — Suffolk's first responders were busy last week, according to the Suffolk County Police Department and other first responders’ logs.Here's a snapshot of some incidents and arrests:
CORAM
A 63-year-old man was charged in connection with exposing himself on Pineview Lane in Coram on June 29. Further details were not available.
A 26-year-old man from Gordon Heights was charged with second-degree assault in connection with an interaction with an officer, EMT, nurse, or crossing guard on July 3. Further details were not available.
HOLBROOK
A 51-year-old Holbrook man was charged with falsely reporting an incident at the 6th Precinct in Selden on June 29. Further details were not available.
A Holbrook man was charged with felony driving while intoxicated after police say he was involved in a crash that damaged two vehicles on July 1. Anthony Ruta pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip and was released on his own recognizance, online court records show.
LAKE RONKONKOMA
A glass door and two iPhones worth $2,200 were swiped from inside a location on Ronkonkoma Avenue in Lake Ronkonkoma at around 4:15 a.m. on July 3.
MASTIC
A Mastic man has been arrested in connection with a February 2025 robbery at Ronny's Jewelry in Patchogue, police said.
Darren Scales, 40, was charged with first-degree robbery for using a gun to threaten a clerk and demand a watch, according to police.
He pleaded not guilty, and his bail was set at $250,000, $500,000 insured bond, or $2 million partially secured surety bond at his arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip, online court records show. He was released on his own recognizance.
MASTIC BEACH
One person was taken to the hospital after a fight between two males at a restaurant in Mastic Beach on Sunday night, Suffolk police said.
A police spokeswoman described the 10 p.m. altercation as domestic in nature, and said no one is pressing charges.One person had minor injuries, and was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in East Patchogue, she said. PATCHOGUE
A 60-year-old Terryville woman was charged with disorderly conduct in connection with obstructing traffic on Main Street in Patchogue on July 2.
PORT JEFFERSON
The Port Jefferson Fire Department responded to 20 alarms Saturday into Sunday during the severe weather that came through the area, officials said in a post to Facebook.
Crews responded to multiple trees down and electrical hazards, including a tree through a house with structural damage, the department said. One crew set up two temporary shoring struts due to multiple ceiling joists being damaged, and at the recommendation of the Village Building Inspector, those struts will remain in place until repairs can be made, according to the department.
RIDGE
Police responded to an argument between landlord and tenant at around 5:40 p.m. at 16 Dew Flag Road in Ridge. No one was hurt, and no charges were pursued.
SHIRLEY
A vehicle fire broke out on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley, at around 10:40 a.m. The fire was out upon police arrival, and the Mastic Fire Department was on scene. No one was hurt, police said.
STONY BROOK
Two hundred dollars was swiped from inside of a business on Nesconset Highway in Stony Brook at around 4:15 a.m. on July 3. The person made off in a dark Jeep Wrangler.
