Man Escapes Vehicle Fire Before In Becomes 'Fully Engulfed' In North Patchogue: Police

PATCHOGUE, NY — First responders extinguished three fires over about 12 hours in the Patchogue area, including a vehicle fire that a man escaped from before it became fully engulfed on Monday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

A 21-year-old man was driving a Honda sedan northbound on North Ocean Avenue, approaching Woodside Avenue, in North Patchogue, when the vehicle started smoking from under the hood, according to police.

The man pulled off the road and got out of the vehicle before it became fully engulfed in flames, and the North Patchogue Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire, police said.

The man was not hurt, according to police.

In the second incident, a small box fire in the street in the roadway in front of a house on Franco Avenue in Selden, was extinguished by the Selden Fire Department at around 1:12 a.m.

In the third incident, A small shipping container fire at West Avenue and South Street was extinguished by the Patchogue Fire Department at around 5:20 a.m.
