YAPHANK, NY — The Yaphank community celebrated the fire department's 100th anniversary in a parade on Main Street on Sunday.
Firefighters were joined by residents, fellow first responders, elected officials, and local community leaders.
The celebration honored a century of service and commitment to protecting the Yaphank community, and also featured live music, food, and refreshments afterward.
It was an opportunity for "families, friends, and neighbors to come together," state Sen. Dean Murray said.
“For 100 years, the men and women of the Yaphank Fire Department have answered the call with courage, dedication, and selfless service," he said. "It was an honor to celebrate this incredible milestone with the department and thank our firefighters for all they do to keep our community safe."
"Congratulations on 100 years of outstanding service,” he added.
