Suffolk Police Officers Rescue Hawk With Injured Wing From Sunrise Highway In Mastic

MASTIC, NY — Officers from the Suffolk County Police Department say they are ready to take flight, even if an animal in need isn't.

The Highway Patrol Bureau responded to a report of an injured hawk in the median of Sunrise Highway in Mastic on Tuesday, and when officers Keith Jansen and John Puzelli arrived at the scene, they discovered the hawk had an injured wing and could not fly, according to a post on the department's Facebook page.

After several attempts, Jansen finally safely secured the bird using an emergency blanket, and the hawk was taken to West Islip Animal Hospital.

"Great work by our officers," the post read.
