7 Motorists Busted In Sobriety Checkpoint Over Labor Day Weekend: Police

The county's Highway Patrol Bureau SAFE-T Team conducted a joint sobriety checkpoint, along with deputy sheriffs and state troopers Friday.

PATCHOGUE, NY — Seven motorists were busted during an overnight sobriety checkpoint in Patchogue over the Labor Day weekend, Suffolk police said.

Officers from the county's Highway Patrol Bureau SAFE-T Team conducted a joint sobriety checkpoint operation, along with deputy sheriffs and state troopers at Waverly Plaza from 11 p.m. Friday until 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

Volunteers and staff from MADD also helped by giving educational information to motorists.

The checkpoint was part of a holiday weekend enforcement crackdown targeting alcohol and drug-impaired driving.

A total of 465 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

The following were charged with driving while intoxicated:
• A 28-year-old from Sayville.
• A 48-year-old from Hauppauge.
• A 26-year-old from Dix Hills.

The following were charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs:
• A 51-year-old from Bohemia.
• A 41-year-old from Bohemia.

The following were charged with driving while ability impaired by alcohol and drugs:
• A 24-year-old from Mastic.
• A 27-year-old from Ronkonkoma.
