4 Connecticut Men Rounded Up, 2 Vehicles Impounded In Street Takeover In Yaphank: Police

YAPHANK, NY — Four people from Meriden, CT were rounded up, and two vehicles were impounded after a street takeover in
Yaphank early Sunday morning, Suffolk police said.

A 911 caller reported a large gathering of vehicles just after 1 a.m. on Express Drive North, west of Sills Road, and when officers from the Street Takeover Task Force arrived, they saw vehicles racing before dispersing, according to police.

Officers pulled over a truck towing a trailer carrying a race car and arrested the four, police said.

A 28-year-old man from Meriden, CT, was charged with reckless driving, unlawful third-degree fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, and unlawful speed contests, sideshows and races, all misdemeanors, police said.

Three other men —a 33-year-old, 30-year-old, and a 35-year-old — were charged with unlawful speed contests, sideshows and races, according to police.

They were all issued Field Appearance Tickets and will be arraigned on a later date, police said.

The truck, trailer, and race car were impounded, according to police.
