A Father's Day card from his daughter was placed inside the casket. Poems to Dad and to Grandpa were close by. T-shirts with humorous sayings such as 'I tried to be good but I got bored' and 'I'm sorry for what I said...It wasn't supposed to be out loud' were displayed nearby. The video game 'Battlefield: Bad Company' was also on display with a sticker saying 'I won'. A family member noted that he had two piles of games; ones with winning stickers and ones that he had yet to play. The family had not realized that was his tradition until recently.

Sheffield's wife, still recovering from her recent heart surgery, was sitting calmly in the front row. She said that what had happened was "completely unfathomable. It hasn't sunk in yet."
