Bellone, Veterans, Officials Raise Flag in Patchogue for USS Michael Murphy
Flag will be displayed on ship for 75th anniversary of Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor

Suffolk County, NY – Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone led a flag tour Tuesday, raising, saluting and lowering an American flag that will be given to the commander of the USS Michael Murphy as part of the commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The tour included sites important to American veterans in all 10 Suffolk County towns. County Executive Bellone, a U.S. Army veteran, will deliver the flag for display by the USS Michael Murphy, named for Patchogue resident Michael P. Murphy, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2005, and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
“We honor and support all of our veterans, whether they served in war or during peacetime,” County Executive Bellone said. “By presenting this flag that has flown over so many sites in this county, sailors on the USS Michael Murphy will know that our residents appreciate their commitment and sacrifices.”
