BELLPORT, NY — Plans for the Bellport Center, next to the Long Island Rail Road station on the corner of Montauk Highway and Station Road, are taking shape, according to the owner and developer Sa'Fraz Farakh of Fraz Realty Co.

The 4,000-square-foot project is planned as a two-story shopping center with four or five tenant spaces, an office on the second floor, and parking beside the building. Proposed uses of the space include restaurants such as a bakery, chicken shop, or pizzeria, as well as a hair salon or barber, and a private healthcare clinic serving as the location's anchor.

The existing tax business at the location, Reynolds Tax Business, is expected to relocate within the new building.

"There's people that are interested," Farakh said of the location's prospective tenants. "There's an ice cream shop, a pizza shop, but nothing's finalized yet."

The project has been awarded grant money to help with its development, though no housing has been planned, according to Farakh.

"I can tell you that it's going to change the way that Montauk Highway looks in Bellport," he added.

"I think the community should know that now they won't have to travel to Patchogue or to Shirley to get basic things like pizza or a haircut," he said. "Now we could do it in Bellport."

The project will be up for a public hearing on Nov. 19 at Brookhaven Town Hall.
