Bellport High School Athletes Raise Over $2,500 In Polar Plunge For Special Olympics

The money will go to help athletes who wish to compete in the Special Olympics.

BELLPORT, NY — Bellport's High School Athletes Helping Others club raised over $2,500 for Special Olympics New York at its Freezin' for a Reason polar plunge at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai on Saturday, South Country School District officials said.

In addition to taking the plunge, the club also sponsored two families by donating full Thanksgiving dinners, according to officials. In the 12 years that the club has taken part in the plunge, members have raised over $12,000 for the Special Olympics, which raises funds for athletes who want to compete in the Special Olympics by helping provide them with training to prepare, officials said.

Altogether, 31 club members took the plunge this year, according to officials.
