DAR at Brookhaven Country Fair

A great weekend at Longwood Estate in Ridge!

A Brookhaven Country Fair at the Longwood Estate in Ridge New York was an amazing weekend! The Colonel Josiah Smith Chapter Daughters of the Amercian Revolution (DAR) enjoyed congratulating children as they found their Fight for Freedom stamping station. The children loved visiting the tent and learning stories of people who settled what we now know as our Long Island New York! The Captain Austin Roe Society enjoyed learning trades such as blacksmithing! Due to an American Chestnut tree blight in the early 19o0's, we no longer have Chestnut Trees (the poem Under the Spreading Chestnut Tree, a village smithy stands) but the Blacksmith trade survives! Graham Nathan-Barry enjoyed forging a fork!

Many visitors shared stories of their ancestors who supported the American Revolution. If you think you are a direct descendant of a Revolutionary War supporter, please contact Regent Joan Nathan at darsamuelprice@gmail.com Our vision today is to support veterans, active service members, the children in our communtiy, historic preservation, and more!
