DAR Brunch at Longwood Estate- Toy Donation to Lighthouse Mission

Dauhters of the American Revolution Colonel Josiah Smith Chapter enjoyed a brunch at the Longwood Estate. Toys for Lighthouse Mission given

This is the season to ensure every child smiles for Christmas. The ladies of the Colonel Josiah Smith Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR-establishd in Patchogue in 1920) gathered at the Longwood Estate in Ridge on December 16th for a Brunch. The ladies and children filled a toy chest under the Christmas Tree! The Longwood Estate is a historic home with Revolutionary War time history. It is owned by the Town of Brookhaven and availble for tours daily as well as events. The home is a true hidden gem in Suffolk County! Children of the American Revolution Captain Austin Roe Society Chaplain Graham Nathan helped collect toys. Regent Dr. Joan Nathan delivered a car load of toys to the Lighthouse Mission. Pastor Jim Ryan said the toys will be part of a shopping event for parents at Kramer Street Elementary on Thursday December 21. "We are always blessed with what we need." The toys from DAR will bring smiles to each child.

The DAR,a lineage society founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children. We work to improve the lives of their community, Veterans, and military persons. Historical preservation is also a goal of DAR, and the Longwood Estate certainly is a most lovely place to gather. Town of Brookhaven Curator Diane Schwindt led a tour of the home and surprised the ladies with a beautiful train display. The home is open Monday through Friday for tours. Also, this is a lovely event space. Call 631-924-1820 for more information. Do you think you are a descendant of a Revolutionary War Patriot? email Regent Nathan at darsamuelprice@gmail.com
