DAR Col. Josiah Smith Honors Artist Elaine Faith Thompson

DAR National Women in the Arts Award

Col. Josiah Smith DAR luncheon- Women's Voices of Victory theme was celebrated at the Bellport Country Club on June 1. Elaine Faith Thompson was awarded a National DAR Women in the Arts Award! Thank you Senator Monica Martinez, Supervisor Ed Romaine, Legislator Rob Calarco who gave Elaine a Proclamation. Elaine's latest painting is of George Washington stained glass window in Washington D.C. chapel for congressmen and senators. The attendees enjoyed entertainment by the Revolutionary Warblers was outstanding! Thank you Gyda Sabaugh of the Knickerbocker Chapter and Elysia Segal, Regent of the Brooklyn Chapter!

The luncheon celebrated women who made a difference on Long Island. There are so many, but Regent Joan Nathan chose the following to celebrate: Anna Smith Strong (1740-1812), Culper Spy Ring; Julia Gardner Tyler (1820-1889), wife of President Tyler; Mary Louise Booth (1831-1889) , who helped us get the Statue of Liberty; Cornelia Floyd Nichols, donated family home of signer of Declaration of Independence William Floyd (1882-2009); Harriett Stilwagen (1876-1964), teacher, mother, and adventurous lady; Elinor Smith (1911-2010), pioneering aviator. This fulfilled course work requirements for the DAR New Member Course. She will graduate this June at the DAR National Congress in Washington D.C.

The Daughters of the American Revolution is a lineage society for women. Their direct ancestors supported the cause of the Revolutionary War which led to our independence.
