Deli Allowed Alcohol Consumption On-Site, Sold Drugs: Cuomo

The business was cited for allegedly violating the COVID-19 guideline as well as selling "illicit prescription drugs" behind the counter.

PATCHOGUE, NY — A Patchogue deli was found to have several violations during an inspection, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office.

In a press release, Cuomo's office stated that on August 29, a sting with an underage agent with the Suffolk County Police Department was conducted at Plaza Papo Deli on 350-26 East Main Street.

The undercover agents were allegedly able to purchase alcohol at the business, which is not allowed to serve alcohol for "on-premises consumption" under the COVID-19 guidelines, according to the press release.

Afterwards, an investigator with the state's multi-agency task force entered the grocery store and saw 10 patrons drinking alcohol, listening to music and watching TV in the back of the store, Cuomo's office stated.

The investigator allegedly also discovered illicit prescription drugs for sale behind the counter and the Suffolk County Police arrested the manager for criminal diversion of prescription medication.
