Firefighters Battle 'Fully Engulfed' SUV On Sunrise Highway In North Bellport: Police

No one was hurt, Suffolk police say.

NORTH BELLPORT, NY — Firefighters extinguished a "fully engulfed" SUV on Sunrise Highway in North Bellport on Wednesday night, Suffolk police said.

A 47-year-old Patchogue man was driving a 2005 Acura SUV westbound on Route 27, near Exit 56, when he saw smoke coming from under his hood, pulled over, and got out of the vehicle at around 9:35 p.m., according to police.

When Highway Patrol officers arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed, police said.

Hagerman Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire, police said, adding that the assistant fire chief was on scene and advised that there were no suspicious circumstances and no signs of arson.

No injuries were reported.
