Former Long Islander, Rock Legend Billy Idol, To Be Inducted Into Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

The British bad boy musician is best known for classic 80s hits, like "Rebel Yell," "Hot in the City," "Cradle of Love," and "Mony, Mony."

PATCHOGUE, NY — Rock legend Billy Idol, who lived in Patchogue as a child before returning to his native England with his parents, will be inducted in the Rock And Roll Music Hall of Fame on Nov. 14, officials say.

The British bad boy musician is best known for classic 80s hits, like "Rebel Yell," "Hot in the City," "Cradle of Love," and "Mony, Mony."

Other hits of his include, "White Wedding," "Dancing with Myself," "Eyes Without a Face," and "Mony Mony."

Idol recently toured the U.S. and released a documentary, "Billy Idol Should Be Dead."

In 2020, Idol posted a photo of himself to his Instagram, with him outside of a home stating, "Visited my USA childhood home ..Conklin Ave Patchogue Long Island yesterday."

Idol, who was born William Michael Albert Broad, moved with his parents to United States when he was three, and the familly briefly lived in a Rockville Centre apartment, before his dad became a sales manager at Blue Point Laundry, Greater Long Island reported in 2023.

The Broads settled in Patchogue for several years, according to his 2014 autobiography “Dancing With Myself,” according to the outlet.

He recalled in his book that he enjoyed watching Captain Kangaroo while living in Patchogue, the outlet reported.

In the performer category, other inductees include Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Sade, Luther Vandross, Wu-Tang Clan, and Oasis.

The inductees were announced live on ABC and Disney+ Monday night by Ryan Seacrest and 2022 Inductee Lionel Richie during the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame episode of “American Idol,” where the Top 11 American Idol finalists took on songs from legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductees as America voted live for the Top 9.

Patchogue Mayor Paul Pontieri called it "pretty neat" that a celebrity like Idol came out of Patchogue.

Idol is not the only famous musician to have lived in Patchogue.

The village once served as the home of Biz Markie.

The Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts hosted his funeral there in 2021. The street where he lived in childhood has also been named "Biz Markie Way" in his honor.
