Grammy-Winning Band Los Lobos To Perform On Long Island

The Mexican-American band from East LA famous for its rousing rendition of "La Bamba" and "Mariachi Suite" will play in February.

PATCHOGUE, NY — The Grammy Award-winning Mexican-American chart toppers, Los Lobos, are set to take the stage of the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts on Feb. 22.

Los Lobos, which the name means "wolves" in Spanish, is best known for its breakthrough performance of Ritchie Valens' "La Bamba" from the hit 1987 movie of the same name. The track became the East LA band's signature song, topping the charts in the U.S. and the U.K. Los Lobos recorded "La Pistola y Corazón," a tribute to Tejano and Mariachi music, and won a Grammy for Best Mexican-American Performance in 1989.

The quintet, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2023, won a Grammy for Best Americana Album of 2022.

It is made up David Hidalgo and Louie Pérez, Jr. on vocals and guitars, as well as Cesar Rosas on vocals, guitars, bass, and Hammond B3 organ, Conrad Lozano on vocals and bass, and Steve Berlin on saxes, MIDI sax, and keyboards.

The group won a Grammy for Best Mexican-American Performance for “Anselma” from its 1983 EP "…And a Time to Dance" followed by "How Will the Wolf Survive?" in 1984, which became a college rock sensation, helping Los Lobos tie with Bruce Springsteen as Rolling Stone’s Artist of the Year, according to theatre officials.

“Mariachi Suite” from the 1995 movie "Desperado" earned the band a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.

Tickets for the performance are $49 to $79, including fees.
