YAPHANK, NY — The heating problem that affected twenty-five inmates in an isolated section of the Yaphank Jail has been fixed, the Suffolk County Sheriff's office said Wednesday.

Two small housing units, containing 10 women and 15 men, were affected, and they were all moved to other housing units temporarily while the sheriff's office worked to fix the issue, an office spokeswoman told Patch on Monday.

It is unclear if the inmates have been moved back into their regular confinement areas, or what the nature of the heating issue was.

The heating issue was the second one at the jail over a few days.

Another heating issue affected the visiting area, which is in a separate area of the jail, on Jan. 30, but that was also fixed shortly after, the spokeswoman said.
