LI Man Nabbed In Brief Standoff After Pistol-Whipping Man: PD

EAST PATCHOGUE, NY — An East Patchogue man was cuffed when a standoff ended following an attack on another man, in which he pistol-whipped him in a parking lot, Suffolk police said.

Police said that at about 6 p.m. a man was standing near Saliah Davis’ motor vehicle in the parking lot of East Winds Apartments on Montauk Highway, when he started yelling at the man, then grabbed him by the neck, pulling out a handgun, and struck him in the head with it several times.

One round was fired from the gun during the assault, but no one was struck by the bullet, police said, adding that Davis ran away into a building in the apartment complex.

The victim of the attack was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Multiple police units, including 5th Precinct officers and detectives, Canine Section and Emergency Service Section officers, and members of the hostage negotiation team all responded to the scene, according to the department.

Following a brief standoff, police arrested Davis, 29, at about 7:30 p.m. and he was charged with second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon, as well as first-degree reckless endangerment. He was additionally charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He was held overnight and then scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
