BELLPORT, NY — The life of beloved South Country School District administrator and football coach, John Conquest, was celebrated as part of Black History Month recently with a special event featuring a panel of speakers.
Conquest was inducted into the Bellport Football Hall of Fame in 2008 and died in 2013 at 73 years old. During his long tenure with the school district, he served in many roles, including that of a teacher, assistant principal, and coach.
He was honored in 2022 with the dedication of the middle school's athletic complex in his name.

Speaking about their connections with Conquest were retired Bellport High School teachers Margaret Bullock, Diane Poulos, and Leroy Still, as well as former athletic director, John Frankie. Teachers Stephen Schwicke and Sharaya William, high school Assistant Principal Dan Fauvell, and 1987 alumnus Matthew Lucas also took part.
