LI's Only Projected Light Installation, MoCA L.I.ghts, Returning To Patchogue's Downtown

PATCHOGUE, NY — Long Island's only light projection festival returns October 22nd through the 26th, with MoCA L.I.ghts in Patchogue, village officials said.

The free installation, which will run from 6 to 11 p.m., can be viewed at any time during the display hours by car, by foot, or online.

It began in 2020 as a way for the public to engage with art and their community safely during the COVID-19 pandemic, and is now in its 7th year and still growing.

The five-day-long installation consists of projected artworks, animations, and site-specific media works on building facades and pop-up galleries that will transform downtown Patchogue into an immersive, open-air museum for visitors.

It will feature visual art, live music, and performance art with over 200 local, national, and international artists of varying career levels, along with on-site educational experiences and virtual workshops for those interested in trying their hand at the presented art forms.

Given the uniqueness of such an event, MoCA L.I.ghts welcomes viewers of ages all across Long Island and beyond for a truly one-of-a-kind arts experience, village officials said.

In celebration of where art has come from and where it will go next, MoCA L.I.ghts 2026 Antiquity to Innovation will highlight the technologies that are ushering artists into the new quarter millennium that we’re embarking on, while honoring the history of advancements from which they were created, according to village officials.

MoCA L.I.ghts will include a new installation called What's Glowing On In The Cemetery? featuring narrative projections that make history come alive. Another addition this year will be a free trolly that makes stops at every installation location all evening long so visitors can more easily navigate the festival and see everything there is to see. This year will also feature the tradition of an opening night outdoor opera and dance performance, new live performances, a bar crawl fundraiser, and so much more.

Cultural Partners include the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, the Village of Patchogue, Patchogue Business Improvement District, Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts,

The Pat-Med Library, Plaza Cinema, Crozier, Cornell Cooperative Suffolk County and Marine Department, Long Island Arts Alliance, MTA Art and Design, Friends of Lakeview Cemeteries, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and Patchogue United Methodist Church are also partners.

The installation is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts.
