Local Firefighters Share Career Tips With Bellport Class

BELLPORT, NY — Two special guests kicked off a unit of study on community helpers at Sarah Dern’s class at Verne W. Critz Elementary School recently, South Country School District officials said.

Bellport High School alumni Alex Omelchuk and Rich Omelchuk spoke to the students about firefighting with the Bellport Village Fire Department.

The students asked thoughtful questions, and got to see firefighting equipment up close, learning how it is used in emergencies, and then try uniforms on.
