Man Charged With DWI After Fleeing Crash, Hiding in Shed: Police

BREAKING: He blew a red light and two people in the other car suffered minor injuries in the Suffolk County crash, police say.

SHIRLEY, NY – A 37-year-old man was arrested following a hit-and-run crash in Shirley Wednesday morning, Suffolk Police said.

According to police, Sean Williams, of Shirley, was driving a 2013 Hyundai Sonata north on Carnation Drive at the intersection of Moriches-Middle Island Road at 9:09 a.m. when he ran a red light and struck a 2014 Volkswagen.

The Volkswagen then struck a pole and Williams fled on foot, police said. He was tracked down by a Canine Section officer, who found him in a nearby shed, police said.

The male driver of the Volkswagon and his female passenger sustained minor injuries and were transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue.

Williams was arrested and charged with DWI, first degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without an interlock device and leaving the scene of an accident.

Williams's car was impounded. He was held at the Seventh Precinct overnight for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Thursday.
