PATCHOGUE, NY — A New Hyde Park man was killed when the sport-utility vehicle he was driving veered off Sunrise Highway in Patchogue on Friday, Suffolk police said.
Glenn Schifano was driving a 2010 Honda CR-V westbound on Sunrise Highway Service Road when it "veered off the roadway and struck a fence" on Chestnut Avenue, said police, adding that it came to a stop "in a driveway on Sinn Street" just after 2 p.m.
Schifano, 61, was transported by North Patchogue Fire Department ambulance to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said. Detectives believe that Schifano may have suffered "a medical event prior to the crash," according to police.
