North Patchogue Fire Leaves Man Seriously Burned, Dog Dead: Officials
A man in his 20s was found on the front lawn with burns and smoke inhalation, officials say. A dog died and two are missing.

NORTH PATCHOGUE, NY — A man in his 20s was found seriously injured on the lawn outside of a North Patchogue home on Monday morning after a fire broke out, officials said.
The fire broke out at the Evans Street home at about 8:30 a.m., and when firefighters arrived they found the man with burns and suffering from smoke inhalation, North Patchogue Fire Department Chief Ted Peters Jr. said. A dog was found dead, and two others are missing.
No one else was inside the home at the time of the fire, he said.

Firefighters from North Patchogue responded almost immediately, according to Peters.
It took about 30 firefighters from six different departments to extinguish the flames at the one-story-and-a-half home. Other departments included Patchogue, Hagerman, Holtsville, Holbrook, and Blue Point.

Holtsville Engine 3 responded to the fire and although its firefighters were assigned as a Rapid Intervention Team, they were "put to work for fire duty upon arriving on scene," due to their "quick response," officials said on Facebook.
The units then "operated for about an hour-and-a-half before returning to service," the post read.
The man was taken by a Stony Brook University ambulance to the hospital, where it is likely he has been admitted to the burn center, Peters said.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, though Suffolk police Arson Squad detectives are investigating, according to Peters.
