Medford Man Accused In Deadly Street Fight Shooting

MEDFORD, NY — A Medford man has been accused of killing an East Patchogue man during a street fight earlier this month.

Darnell Smith, 36, of East Patchogue, was shot around 1:35 a.m on Saturday and was declared dead at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, police said. Officers had been called for reports that a large group of people had been brawling in the street near Cedar Lane and West Lane in Medford.

Corey Coach, 25, of Maple Lane, was charged with second-degree manslaughter and unlawful possession of a weapon, Suffolk County police said Wednesday.

Coach was held overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned in Central Islip on Thursday.
