To the Moon and Back at Canaan Elementary

Canaan Elementary School recently hosted its second Astronomy Night.

From Patchogue-Medford Schools:Canaan Elementary School hosted its second Astronomy Night in the fall.

Open to the entire third grade, students and staff observed the moon through a telescope, used a laser pointer and a sky view app to view constellations, made tinfoil constellations to put on flashlights, and used chalk and black paper to draw the moon phase they observed.

Each student was given an astronaut name tag, a glow bracelet, and astronaut ice cream.

"Astronomy Night is a unique opportunity to bring learning beyond the classroom, and to bring students, parents, and the community together for a fun learning experience,” said Jessica Beatty, a third-grade special education teacher at Canaan. “This hands-on activity is guaranteed to create lasting memorable moments for everyone.”

Ms. Beatty would like to thank all of the teachers and staff that helped create such a great event.

“A special thanks to Mr. Epstein for allowing this event to occur, and giving full support for creativity and learning for the students and families,” she said.
