New Supermarket Chain Set To Open 8 LI Stores By Next Summer

Four Best Market stores will be taken over by the new chain in addition to the four new stores that will be added.

LONG ISLAND, NY — A new German supermarket chain announced that it will now be opening a total of eight new stores across Long Island by 2020. Lidl will be coming to the area to convert some of the former Best Markets, which sold over 20 of its Long Island stores to the company earlier this year. In addition, the chain will be opening new stores in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

First, stores in Plainview, West Babylon, Huntington and Center Moriches are all set to open by early next year.

The, new supermarkets will be opening in East Meadow, Oakdale, Patchogue and Lake Grove by summer 2020. Best Markets are located in Merrick, East Meadow, Farmingdale, Franklin Square, Commack, New Hyde Park, Oakdale, East Northport, East Patchogue, East Rockaway, Riverhead, Selden, Shirley, Great Neck, Syosset, West Babylon, Westhampton Beach, West Islip, Islip, Lake Grove and Massapequa.

As part of the transition, Lidl will remodel Best Market stores currently located in the four communities: West Babylon, Oakdale, Lake Grove and East Meadow.

All employees working at the new Lidl stores in Nassau and Suffolk counties will receive full medical benefits regardless of the number of hours they work per week, including team members working part-time.

Lidl also raised the starting minimum wage for store associates working on Long Island to $15 per hour, $3 more per hour than the required minimum on Long Island.
