"Nobody Starves on Long Island" Making Big Waves
Long Island Animal Charity proving helpful for pet community on Long Island, the five boroughs, and Upstate NY.
Since it’s inception last October, Nobody Starves on Long Island has been increasing their presence in the community. The charity unofficially began in 2012 during the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Although the event was a sobering travesty, human compassion was able to rise above the natural destruction and blossom into many forms of organized altruism. Nobody Starves on Long Island began during the wake of this destruction by delivering pet food to families in need. Since then, the charity has grown to house many rescued dogs and cats waiting to find a new home, as well as continuing the mission to feed those furry friends in need. The mission of this charity has since expanded to effectively aid all communities on Long Island as well as the five boroughs, and Upstate NY.
Nobody Starves on Long Island has been slowly growing with the help of compassionate individual donators and friendly sister charities such as Paws Unite People. “The amount of support and warm wishes we’ve been receiving really blew me away” said Gary Kaufman, founder.
The charity is currently operating out of a residential property which had been converted to comfortably house 10-12 pets with heating and air conditioning. This home-shelter is equipped with comfortable living space for each pet as well as several fenced in areas for dogs to play and get exercise. However, Gary Kaufman isn't stopping there. Mr. Kaufman envisions a softer and more homely environment for the rescued pets as they transition from often abusive pasts to more loving families. Mr. Kaufman has also formed many partnerships with companies and organizations to transport pet food to pet owning families in need.

As the charity had only received their 501c3 last October, they are fairly young but growing fast. However, funding and donations are not keeping up with the charity’s growth and more is needed to continue the much needed operations on Long Island. Nobody Starves on Long Island is in need of donations and volunteers to help maintain the shelter and provide much more love and attention to rescued animals as they transition into new homes.
