NY Man On Run In Virginia Charged In Long Island Fatal Shooting: Cops
Shati Smith, 28, was charged with second-degree murder and will be arraigned in Newport News on Wednesday, cops say.
NORTH BELLPORT, NY — A Suffolk man has been charged in the murder of another man earlier this month, Suffolk police said Tuesday.
Homicide Squad detectives, along with the United States Marshals Service's New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and Newport police, arrested a 28-year-old North Bellport man for the murder of Lee Houpe in North Bellport on June 15, according to police.
Shati Smith, 28, was charged with second-degree murder as a fugitive from justice and will be returned to Suffolk after his arraignment in Newport News Circuit Court on Wednesday.

Police said a male driver shot Houpe, who was standing outside of his Post Avenue home at about 1:45 p.m., and then drove away in an unknown direction.
Houpe was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
