1 Dead, Another Seriously Hurt In Hit-And-Run Crash On William Floyd Parkway In Shirley: Police
UPDATE: One man died at the scene, while the other man was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, Suffolk cops say.
SHIRLEY, NY — A hit-and-run crash on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley left one man dead and another seriously hurt on Thursday night, Suffolk police said.
The pair were changing a flat tire on a vehicle parked on the side of the road, just north of a home on William Floyd Parkway, when they were struck by a vehicle that fled the scene at around 6:45 p.m., according to police.
Detectives believe the car that fled the scene is a black Honda, and has front, as well as passenger side damage, according to police.

One man died at the scene, while the other man was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said, adding that their identities are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The victim’s car was impounded for a safety check, police said.

William Floyd Parkway was shut down from Ridgewood on the southbound side, and Dawn Drive on the northbound side, just before 7 p.m. while police investigated.
The busy roadway spans from the south in Shirley to Shoreham in the north, serving as a main artery that connects motorists with major thoroughfares, like Sunrise Highway and the Long Island Expressway.
