Pat-Med's Stroman Finishes First Year at Duke

Former baseball star chose the ACC over a big league deal.

In Patchogue Medford's recent history, there have been few names that garnered headlines like Marcus Stroman.

He was a four-year letter winner for Patchogue-Medford in baseball and basketball, and rode off into the sunset of his high school career with a call from the Washington Nationals, who selected him in the 18th round (532 overall) of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft.

Deferring the majors so he could play ball at Duke University in the Atlantic Coast Conference, arguably the best baseball conference in the land, Stroman broke onto the scene as a pitcher for the Blue Devils going 6-4 with a 5.31 ERA as a freshman.
