Patchogue-Medford Voters Reject $45M Bond: Report

The bond to fund new ventilation and air conditioning was defeated 466-560, Newsday reported.

PATCHOGUE, NY — A $45-million bond proposal to install new ventilation and air-conditioning in Patchogue-Medford School District classrooms was rejected by residents 466-560 Tuesday, Newsday reported.

District clerk Dennis Logan told Newsday that the bond lost in three out of the district's five polling locations.

School officials previously had said the upgrades were needed to students' learning environment, the outlet reported.

If the bond had been approved, an average homeowner's taxes would have gone up by $276 annually, before state aid was taken into account, according to Newsday.

Part of the cost would have been covered by $5.8 million in federal American Rescue Plan funds, with about 73 percent in state aid in addition, the outlet reported.
