Patchogue Officials Cancel Weekend Events

The outdoor events had been scheduled Saturday and Sunday, but were called off as Hurricane Ian barreled up the coast from the Carolinas.

PATCHOGUE, NY — Patchogue officials have canceled or postponed several events for this weekend due to the impending remnants of Hurricane Ian that are expected to wend their way up from the Carolinas on Long Island.

The annual scarecrow contest on Saturday was canceled by village officials on Thursday. Then on Friday, the Patchogue Youth Athletic Association game scheduled for Saturday was canceled. Also on Friday, the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce postponed its Hispanic Parade scheduled for Sunday.

Chamber executive director David Kennedy said the decision was made "after much consideration of impending inclement weather forecasted for this weekend," in an email to chamber members.

The parade will instead move forward on Oct. 23.

"We look forward to see everyone there as we celebrate our vibrant Hispanic community that makes Patchogue a truly special place," Kennedy wrote.
