Patchogue Set For Fourth Annual River Cleanup In September

The date for the Fourth Annual Patchogue River Clean Up was recently announced for Saturday, September 21.

PATCHOGUE, NY — Get your plastic bags, gloves, rakes and shovels ready, as the date for the Fourth Annual Patchogue River Cleanup was recently announced for September 21. The annual cleanup event is hosted by the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, the Fire Island National Seashore and local Drift 82 bar.

Patchogue isn't the only place where volunteers are coming together on the day to clean their local public land though, as September 21 is also National Public Lands Day, and cleanup events are scheduled across the country.

The day will begin at 10 a.m. at the Patchogue-Watch Hill Ferry Terminal. At the starting site volunteers will receive important information about the day's activities, clean up locations, and also pick out their cleaning supplies, according to its Facebook Event page.

The day will continue at Drift 82 at 12 p.m., as participants are invited to win raffles, compete in a 'macncheese' contest, and see how much trash was collected on the day. Proceeds from the contest will go to next year's Patchogue River Clean-Up.

"The Patchogue River Clean-Up aims to connect the Patchogue community to a valuable resource in their backyard through education and public service," writes the Facebook Event page.
