Police: Toddler in Stroller Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver

A three-year-old girl is in the hospital after being stuck by a hit-and-run driver in Shirley Monday afternoon, police said.
According to police, Scott Shea, of Middle Island, was driving a 2005 Jeep north on William Floyd Parkway, south of Montauk Highway, when he struck the girl, who was being pushed in a stroller, at about 3:45 p.m. The girl, whom police did not identify, was transported by Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital where she is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Shea, 30, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident. He will be held overnight at the Seventh Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday. The investigation is continuing.
