Selden Woman Dies In LIE Crash; 1-Year-Old Daughter Uninjured: Cops
She was pronounced dead at the scene; her daughter was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center uninjured, police said.
YAPHANK, NY — A 41-year-old Selden woman died after the SUV she was driving crashed into a fence on the Long Island Expressway in Yaphank on Sunday morning, Suffolk police said.
Fay Vella was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, with her one-year-old daughter as a passenger, on the southbound William Floyd exit ramp to Express Drive North, when she lost control of it, according to police. The SUV crashed through a chain link fence, overturned, and it came to a stop in the woods off the roadway at about 1:20 a.m., police said.
Vella was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, according to police.

Her daughter was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where she was evaluated and released to a family member, police said.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check, according to police.
