Sheriff To Present 38 New Recruits With Their Shields At The Yaphank Jail
They took part in a rigorous 7-month training program, including firearms instruction, emergency vehicle operations, and EMT training.
YAPHANK, NY — Thirty-eight new Suffolk County deputy sheriffs are about to hit the roads soon.
They will be presented with their shields — ahead of their official graduation — on Tuesday at the Yaphank Correctional Facility in a special ceremony that family and friends will be able to attend to mark the milestone, Sheriff Errol Toulon's office said.
The recruits trained alongside the county's police recruits at the Suffolk County Police Academy in Brentwood in a rigorous seven-month training program, which included instruction in firearms, emergency vehicle operations, EMT training, and individualized field training.
