SPCA: E. Patchogue Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty

A pit bull needed to be euthanized after being neglected by 22-year-old woman, authorities say.

An East Patchogue woman faces an animal cruelty charge after she failed to care for her dog, leading to the dog’s death, Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross said Monday.

Madison Cammarata, 22, was charged with the misdemeanor on Sunday by an Suffolk County SPCA investigator.

Authorities say the case stems from a call that the SPCA received from Guardians of Rescue in May. A 7-year-old pit bull named Duncan that appeared to be starving was surrendered to the Smithtown-based Guardians of Rescue, Gross said.

A veterinarian found foreign objects in the dog’s stomach, he said.

Because of Duncan’s poor prognosis, he had to be humanely euthanized, Gross said.
