St. Joseph's In Patchogue To Host Kristallnacht Remembrance On Tuesday

"An Evening of Jewish-Christian Dialogue in Remembrance of Kristallnacht" will be hosted in the McGann Conference Center starting at 6 p.m.

PATCHOGUE, NY — Jews and Christians alike will gather at St. Joseph's College in Patchogue to remember Kristallnacht, or the night of shattered glass in Germany when Nazis murdered Jewish people.

"An Evening of Jewish-Christian Dialogue in Remembrance of Kristallnacht" will be hosted in the McGann Conference Center of O'Connor Hall by the college's Institute for the Study of Religion in Community Life.

Kristallnacht took place in Germany from Nov. 9 -10, in 1938.

History Professor Seth Armus will reflect on the Ken Burns PBS documentary, "The U.S. and the Holocaust." Armus teaches a variety of courses on the French Revolution and modern Europe, as well as the Holocaust. His book, "French Ant-Americanism (1930-1948,) Critical Moments in a Complex History " was widely praise among historians when it was published in 2007, school officials said.

Armus continues research and publish on the topic of modern and contemporary France, according to school officials.

The event will begin with a kosher buffet at 6 p.m., followed by Armus' talk. There will be a question and answer session, as well as a discussion, and the sharing of stories at 8 p.m. The event will conclude at 8:30 p.m. with the reading of Kaddish, which is a prayer for the dead in Hebrew.
