Suffolk Man Charged In Catalytic Converter Thefts: Police

The parts were stolen from two utility vans back in August, Suffolk police said.

NORTH BELLPORT, NY — A man has been arrested in connection with stealing catalytic converters off of two Chevrolet utility vans in North Bellport back in August, Suffolk police said.

He stole catalytic converters off of vans at B&R Mechanical on Sawgrass Drive, sometime between Aug. 26 and Aug. 29, police said, adding that he drove away in a black Nissan Sentra. He was arrested on Suffolk Avenue in Brentwood just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday after an investigation by 5h Precinct Crime Section officers, police said.

He was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and two counts of third-degree criminal mischief, both felonies, and he was released on a desk appearance ticket. He is due to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.
