Suffolk PD: Suspect Stole Envelope With $1,200 Cash In Patchogue

The man claimed the cash that belonged to someone else from a deli on River Avenue and drove away in a Volkswagen, police said.

PATCHOGUE, NY — Suffolk police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the man they say stole an envelope containing about $1,200 from another customer at a Patchogue deli back in April.

Police said the man was at Tavares Deli, Grocery and Catering on River Avenue at about 12:40 p.m., when he claimed ownership of the envelope which was left on the counter by another customer. The man took the envelope, which was being held by a store employee, and the man drove away in a white Volkswagen sedan, police said.

Suffolk Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information leading to an arrest, and detectives are asking anyone with information about the theft to submit an anonymous tip by calling the confidential police hotline, 1-800-220-TIPS.
