Suffolk Police Arrested 39 People In Connection With Drunken Driving Over The July 4th Holiday

YAPHANK, NY — The Suffolk County Police Department arrested 39 people in connection with drunken driving over the July Fourth holiday, a spokesperson said.
Between Thursday at 4 p.m. to Monday at 8 a.m., 39 people were charged with driving while intoxicated.
A Mastic man was charged with DWI on Friday night after Suffolk police say his vehicle rear-ended a pick-up truck in Mastic Beach.

The man was driving a 2019 Ford northbound on Mastic Road at about 8 p.m., when he crashed it nto the back of a 2001 Chevrolet pickup that was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Quay Avenue, according to police.
The woman driving the pickup truck pulled her vehicle over, and the man continued to drive forward, left the roadway, and crashed the Ford into a utility pole, police said.

The man, 64, from Mastic, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and was treated at NYU Langone Hospital - Suffolk in East Patchogue for a non-life-threatening injury, according to police.
The woman declined medical treatment at the scene, police said.
