Long Island Police Department Launch Hate Crimes Hotline
Tips will help "identify potential patterns and determine if outreach and education in the community is needed," police said.
YAPHANK, NY — Suffolk officials announced the details of a special hotline to take tips on hate crimes at a press briefing in Yaphank on Tuesday, police said.
County Executive Steve Bellone and Police Commissioner Rodney K. Harrison were joined by community leaders at police headquarters.
Harrison discussed the specifics of the hotline which can be used by both victims and anonymous callers to address concerns about hateful incidents, police said. The information gleaned from calls to the hotline will be evaluated by detectives "to identify potential patterns and determine if outreach and education in the community is needed," according to police.
