More Long Island families are turning to food banks with the cost of groceries rising close to 13 percent, officials said. To combat the demand, families in need of holiday meals were identified by the START Center and non-profit service agencies to guarantee they can receive a free meal without the worry of a shortage, according to officials.
The items were donated by partners, including Long Island Cares, Compare Foods, United Way, EOC, Chubs Butcher Shop, Caitlyn's Vision, and others.
