EAST PATCHOGUE, NY — A former used car lot in East Patchogue was demolished recently to create more open space in the area. Supervisor Ed Romaine and members of Focus East Patchogue were on hand for the demolition of the lot at 550 East Main Street. According to town officials, the 0.28-acre property is in an environmentally sensitive area adjacent to the Swan River Preserve and Swan River.

"This completes our plan to return this entire parcel to open space," Councilman Neil Foley, who represents the East Patchogue community said. "I thank Suffolk County for partnering with the Town on this project and Focus East Patchogue for their commitment to improve the community they serve."

The Town’s Department of Recycling and Sustainable Materials Management performed the demolition and disposal of the on-site trailer and office and the asphalt parking lot.

An additional four acres of undeveloped land just south of the property is also owned by the town. The demolition is part of an effort by the town to improve the area known as the East Main Street Corridor.

"Cleaning this property has been our plan for many years and thanks to Councilman Foley's cooperative effort with the County, we are finally moving ahead," Supervisor Ed Romaine said. "The Town has made significant improvements to the East Patchogue Corridor and now we have the opportunity to preserve more open space and protect the fragile waterways nearby."
